Michael Dubb, president of the Beechwood Organization, Jericho-based development firm, has been named the American Cancer Society of Long Island’s “Man of the Year” for 2002. Dubb serves as president of Long Island Homebuilder Care, a charitable offshoot of the Hauppauge-based Long Island Builders Institute, and as president of and builder for the Belmont Child Care Association.
Dubb said his participation in American Cancer Society’s fundraising efforts have varied. Recently, his company gave away the furniture in its model homes to its employees, but required those that took pieces make a donation to the ACS. Overall, $14,000 was raised, a number that was matched by Dubb.
He said his efforts are motivated in part by being personally affected by the devastating effects of cancer through coping with family members who have battled the disease. “It’s such a good cause,” Dubb said. “There is a need to declare war on cancer.”
Dubb will be honored at the ACSLI’s annual golf tournament set for Oct. 7 at the Pine Hollow and Muttontown country clubs in East Norwich.
